Year 6
Welcome to the Year 6 page
Year 6 is an important year at Preston Park. As well as the children sitting thier national SAT tests next year, they are now also the oldest children in the school. This means that they are the children and Year group that the rest of the school will look towards for good behaviour and learning practise. Please remind your child of this so they understand their responsibilitiy to help all the children in the school as other Year 6 children have done in the past. Please review the Behaviour Policy we sent to all parents earlier this year if you need to review the good behaiour that is expected from all children at all times.

Homework
During this academic year your children will have homework each day. This is intended to help them consolidate the learning that takes place during lesson time and will uultimately help them acheive good SAT results, which we know they are all capable of reaching. It is important then that you allow your children time at home to complete these tasks and where you can, talk to them to ensure they understand the importance of them.
We also have a high regard at school for reading books. All children have the oppotunity to take a reading book home so please ensure that your child reads as much as they can. One way of ensuring this is to get your child to read aloud to you each evening or on the weekend.
Fronter
Year 6 teachers are currently working hard on the Year 6 Fronter page. Each Year 6 child has their unique Fronter username and password that gives them access to this area and also other pages that will help them to extend and consolidate their learning. If poosible then, please allow your child time to access Fronter from home and please note that the Year 6 page can also help children with homework tasks and also contains resources that can help them with revising for their SAT's. Children can access Fronter by going to the 'contacts and links' page on this website.
Learning Resources
The Year 6 teachers will do their best to offer children learning resources on the Year 6 Fronter page throughout the year. Please click here to acces the curiculum map for Year 6 so you have an overview of the topics for each subject for each term.
The London Grid for Learning is an online website that schools' use for learning resources for all subjects and all key stages. You can find the LGFL website by clicking here.
The BBC website has an area especially designed for children and has lots of learning resources and games that will teach, extend and consoilate learning for your child. Click here to access this site and remind your children that the 'Bitesize Primary' area focuses on topics they are currently learning about in school.
Laptop/iPad scheme and E-safety
If your child has a laptop or iPad2 then remind that that they need to be responsible for the material they access on the internet. Here at school we have a filtering system so children can not access content not suitable for their age range. If you would like to have a similar filtering system at home them please contact your internet provider who will send you information on how to do this.
Because your child can access the internet at home it is important that we work together to ensure that children now how to respond to some of the risks they may face while online. Fronter has an E-safety page that all children can access which is a great e-safety learning area. Please also visit the E-safety page on this website which is located under the tab ICT on the left hand side of this page.
Please also remember that if you are purchasing a laptop or iPad2 through the school then you also have a payment plan that needs to be paid each month. Please try and make regular payments and if you have any problems with payment that you must contact the school to let them know. We rely on these payments to inform and arrange future ICT projects and schemes.
