Preston Park Primary

National Gallery Invitation

We are delighted to have our work displayed in the National Gallery

Dear families of Preston Park

Children in Macaw, Sun Parakeet and Toucan completed a project called Take One Picture last year which is organised by the National Gallery.

Some of you kindly sent in family pictures for the project and may have also attended a small exhibition at school.

The children’s brilliant work was selected for display and is now on show at the National Gallery, in London’s Trafalgar Square (in the Sunley Room) until January 31st 2021. This is an amazing opportunity to view your child’s work in one of the world’s leading art institutions.

The children were asked to respond to a painting called Men of the Docks by American artist, George Bellows.  The painting has many points of interest but the children went with the theme of immigration and they created a giant tea set with table and chairs called: A Welcoming Tea Party.

Pupils from Sun Parakeet class also contributed to a video where children from across the country, talk about the painting. It can be viewed here: https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/take-one-picture-2020/explore-the-exhibition

Entry to the exhibition is free, but because of Covid restrictions tickets need to be booked online here: https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/visiting/plan-your-visit/gallery-entry.

It would be wonderful for you to take your child to view their work as unfortunately we are unable to organise a school trip at this time.

Best wishes
