year 1: sunbird, turaco and kingfisher
Welcome to our home page! This is where we will share learning tasks for children in Sunbird, Turaco and Kingfisher.
Please take part in our reading challenge.
Here we will share information related to what your child can be learning from home and other useful resources.
Message from the team: How our curriculum will work this summer term
Dear Year One,
We hope you and your families are keeping safe at home whilst our school is temporarily closed.
During this period of uncertainty, we want to try and provide some normality for you. This term we will continue with teaching most of our curriculum as we can. Please find below the curriculum map and how our virtual curriculum will work.
Your topic this term is Protecting Our Environment where we will be exploring the sea. We will be looking at life under the sea and the impact of pollution on the underwater environment. We will be exploring the sea, visiting the seaside [virtually as unfortunately we cannot go on our intended trip to dip our toes in the sea and explore rock pools, seaweed and go on a crab hunt]. We will also be exploring travel via the sea and learn about the Windrush generation.
Our gallery is coming soon!
If you would like your work to be published in this gallery or on Twitter, email year1@prestpk.brent.sch.uk and please confirm that you give consent for the work to be shared socially.
There are links to a great range of fun and interactive games and online lessons for you to participate in under the Learning at Home tab. Below, on this page, you will find a comprehensive list of different online lessons you can participate in throughout the week.
We will be viewing your work on Purple Mash and providing feedback- we cannot wait to see what you have been up to!
Stay safe.
Best wishes,
Miss John-Lewis, Miss Pindoria and Miss Clarke

Home School Communication
Whilst our school is temporarily closed, we still want to keep our lines of communication between home and school open.
Mrs Nutton regularly sends update letters via ParentPay. It is important that all families have an account to avoid missing any key information. If you do not already have an account, please email our Admin Team at admin@prestpk.brent.sch.uk who can help you set one up.
We miss all our pupils so much that we will be making contact via telephone calls once a week, to see how you and your family are, and to support with any questions you may have about your learning.
In the meantime, we would love to see pictures or videos of any home learning tasks you have completed that you are particularly proud of. Please email year1@prestpk.brent.sch.uk so we can celebrate your learning.
We are also launching our whole school blog very soon. We are so excited! Keep your eyes peeled on how to engage with us via it.
Easter Home Learning
Please find attached Year One's Easter Home Learning Matrix.
Complete each task in your orange ‘Home Learning’ exercise book. We would really like to see your final products of your home learning. If you want to share an image or recording of one of your projects, email them to year1@prestpk.brent.sch.uk for the attention of your class teacher.
Do not forget to take part in the school’s Reading Challenge. It is really easy! Choose a book from the 100 options and then rate and review it. You may have read some of these books already so you can simply write a review on it. With public libraries and local shops being temporarily closed, we wouldn’t expect you to review books you cannot find. However, Amazon Audibles has made hundreds of its audiobooks free to the public during this period, go have a look if a book you are interested in is available there.
Carol Vordeman has created a free online maths website The Maths Factor with games and quizzes https://www.themathsfactor.com/ Once you have signed up it will take a couple of days for you to receive your username and password.
You can also sign up to the CBeebies website https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/shows/numberblocks There are lots of amazing learning video clips. Please follow the link to Number Blocks videos which will support your child’s mathematical development.
To exercise your mathematical mind, practice your number bond facts daily through NumBots. We will be observing how you are doing and playing along. Shout outs will be made on our blog and Twitter at the end of every week for those who are becoming moving on to a new stage, making lots of progress and getting closer to becoming a robot made of diamond!
